Scottish Ensemble - Ravel and Shostakovich - The List

The Ensemble commissioned Russian composer Rudolph Barshai to expand Ravel's String Quartet for their larger string forces, and Barshai has responded with the Petite Symphonie, a fabulous new addition to the string repertoire. It is paired with another of his famed Chamber Symphonies derived from a string quartet (No 10) by Shostakovich. The Scottish Ensemble play both works with the polish and expressive power we expect from them.
