Gottlieb Wallisch - piano
Gottlieb Wallisch is one of the fastest rising representatives of the younger generation of Austrian artists; virtuosity and sovereign individuality are the hallmarks of his playing.
Born in 1978 in Vienna into a family of musicians, Gottlieb received his first piano lessons from his mother at the age of four. At the age of six and a half he began his studies at the Vienna University of Music and Drama and graduated with honours.
Gottlieb Wallisch received further important artistic influence from Oleg Maisenberg and Dmitrij Bashkirov and participated in master classes given by Stephen Kovacevich. At the age of 16, the young pianist won the first prize in the prestigious
international piano competition The Stravinsky Awards (in the USA). His most recent successes include becoming a finalist of the Queen Elisabeth International Piano Competition in Brussels and at the Concours Clara Haskil in Vevey.
Gottlieb Wallisch has performed with leading orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, under conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Dennis Russell Davies, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Louis Langrée, Sir Neville Marriner, Christopher Hogwood, Lawrence Foster and Helmut Müller-Brühl. Numerous concert tours have taken him to the USA (Carnegie Hall, Washington DC), Great Britain (Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall), Japan, Hong Kong, the Middle East, Africa and many European countries, including Spain, Germany and Switzerland.
He participated in the international cycle Rising Stars and gave solo recitals in the largest European capitals as well as in the USA (Musikverein Vienna, Konserthus Stockholm, Société Philharmonique in Brussels, the Athens Concert Hall, Wigmore
Hall and the Carnegie Hall).
He has appeared at renowned festivals and concert halls, for example the Lucerne Festival, Piano Festival Ruhr, the Salzburg Festival, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Tonhalle Zürich, Newbury Spring Festival and many more. Recent seasons have
seen him performing at the Musikhalle Hamburg, the Kölner Philharmonie, De Doelen Rotterdam and the Wiener Festwochen and the Budapest Spring Festival.
Gottlieb Wallisch has been broadcast on, in addition to many, ORF Radio, Austria, Radio France International, RTBF Belgium, BBC London and Minnesota Public Radio. His CD publications up to date include works by Haydn, Schumann, Brahms, Schubert and Stravinsky as well as works by Mozart, Strauss and Pfitzner. In the 2009/10 season Gottlieb Wallisch will tour Switzerland with the Camerata Salzburg; appear at the Konzerthaus Berlin performing Mozart with The CPE Bach Chamber Orchestra; appear with the NTO Orchestra in Austria performing Mendelssohn; as well as solo recitals in Austria, UK, Germany, Ukraine, Iran and Chile.
