John Butt Extends His Tenure
Dunedin Consort has re-appointed John Butt as Music Director for another ten years.
Nicholas Kenyon has chosen Dunedin Consort's recording of the Mozart Requiem as his 'Building A Library' First Choice, stating:
'...the version that captures that best for me with unrivalled power and immediacy is the reconstruction by John Butt and the Dunedin Consort...done with superb musicality, coherence and commitment.'
This is the latest in a long line of accolades for Dunedin's recording of the new 2013 edition of Süssmayr's completion of this popular work. It was named winner of the 'Choral' category at the 2014 Gramophone Awards and nominated for a GRAMMY Award, as well as being named a 'Top 10 Mozart Recording' by Gramophone and in the Top 5 'Classical Albums of 24' by Amazon.
Incredibly, this is the third time Dunedin Consort has beaten the competition to be named Record Review's First Choice: J.S. Bach: Matthew Passion and Handel: Acis & Galatea also won this accolade.
