Gerard Presencer - Platypus - The Herald

06 June 1998
The Herald
Rob Adams

Platypus, Gerard Presencer: The brilliant young flugelhornist/trumpeter takes time off from enhancing sessions by everyone from Stan Tracey to Kylie Minogue to make his debut as leader. A funky, sophisticated update of Bobby Timmons's Moanin' boots open an easily accessible, mostly electric set which, despite slightly uneven writing quality, admirably showcases Presencer's many qualities - agility, sensitivity and rich soloing imagination among them.
