Questo che rappresenta il debutto e! gruppo Concerto Caledonia con la casa discografica Linn, ci offre un'affascinante panoramica sulla musica del compositore barocco scozzes James Oswald. Figlio di un musicista di un piccolo villaggio, Oswald ascese tutti i ranghi della società musicale inglese sino a divenire il compositore del re Giorgio III, ma purtroppo noi conosciamo decisamente poco di quest’uomo e della sua musica, e molte delle opere qui presentate non erano mai state incise sino ad ora. La maggoir parte della musica di Oswald affonda le sue radici nella musica tradizionale scozzese della quale fu un assiduo raccoglitore e collezionista. Il programma che vede canzoni d’amore, pezzi strumentali e miniature, mostra appieno l'abilità di Oswald di unire la bellezza melodica, le convenzioni musicali, una satira elegante e arie tradizionali con una grazia consumata e una raffinatezza unica.
