Thomas Sondergard - Sibelius: Symphonies 1 & 6 - Pizzicato

Nach einer vielversprechenden Aufnahme der Symphonien Nr. 2 und 7 mit Thomas Sondergard und dem ‘BBC National Orchestra of Wales’ legt dieses Team die Messlatte sogar noch höher und überrascht uns mit einer phänomenal gespielten 1. Symphonie, die mehr als einmal an den revolutionären Charakter der ‘Symphonie fantastique’ von Berlioz erinnert. Sondergard und das BBC Orchester aus Wales lassen phantastische Klangeruptionen und wilde Melodien auf den Zuhörer los, während sie im Andante ungemein sanfte Töne und wunderbaren Klangzauber heraufbeschwören.

Mit eher pastoralem Charakter – Beethoven lässt grüßen – weiß auch die Sechste Symphonie in jedem Moment zu begeistern. Sondergard und dem Orchester gelingt es, vielschichtige Klangschattierungen und eigenartige, immer wieder bezaubernde Stimmungen, Farben und Bilder heraufzubeschwören, was aber nicht nur den Interpreten sondern ebenfalls den Klangtechnikern zu verdanken ist, die hier eine wirklich hochkarätige Arbeit verrichtet haben. Als Zuhörer kann man nur staunen und sich in die einzigartige musikalische Welt von Jean Sibelius hineinziehen lassen.

While Sondergard’s performance of Sibelius’s First Symphony is extremely dramatic, the Sixth develops a rather pastoral character. Both performances are very atmospheric and benefit from a superior recording technique.
