Chopin Reminiscences - Pizarro - Scotland on Sunday

Chopin demanded as much of his instrument as of himself. He experimented with pianos from different qualities, whether of strength or brightness of tone. The Bluthner on which Artur Pizarro performs produces a clear, almost glacial sound, a world away from some of the heavier pianos on which Chopin's waltzes are performed. As a result, each phrase comes through cleanly, and the complications of Chopin's music become more apparent. So does the musical athleticism he needed to create different dimensions of sound as perhaps, the pianist of the 19th century.
