Avison Ensemble's Corelli Named BBC Chamber 'Choice'

Opus 1 & 3: Church Sonatas, the final instalment in the Avison Ensemble's Corelli series has been named Chamber 'Choice' in the October issue of BBC Music Magazine. Reviewer Kate Bolton states, 'I have enjoyed every one of the discs in this series from Linn Records so far, and this last set more than lives up to expectations.'  Awarding the recording five stars for both performance and sound, Kate concludes, 'These are, in sum, sincere and poised accounts, a fitting tribute to the 'chaste and faultless' character of the composer and his music.'

The Avison Ensemble launched the series to mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Arcangelo Corelli in 2012.  The first three releases in the series are: Opus 6: Concerti Grossi, Opus 5: Violin Sonatas and Opus 2 & 4: Chamber Sonatas which also received rave reviews across the media:

The Avison Ensemble offer suave, personable performances, allowing this exquisitely engaging music to do its own work.'
