In The Studio: Jonathan Freeman-Attwood
Mozart reimagined for trumpet
Phillip Sommerich sits down with trumpeter Jonathan Freeman-Attwood to discuss his upcoming album, Romantic Trumpet Sonatas, which is available on Monday 7th March 2011, in the latest issue of Classical Music Magazine. In this release, Freeman-Attwood teams up with pianist Daniel-Ben Pienaar for their third album on Linn in their endless quest to explore and open up repertoire for the trumpet. This recording takes on the big question of 'What if?' and wonders out loud 'What if there were two or three great trumpet virtuosos in the 1830s or 1840s? What would that have kick-started?' This collection of arrangements gives new life to works by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Grieg and include's an original 20th century composition by Karl Pilss.
Romantic Trumpet Sonatas is available to download at Studio Master quality today. The album will be available on SACD from Monday 7th March 2011. To download or pre-order the album, please click here.
