Claire Martin - The Waiting Game - AudioVideo Shopper
Martin [has a] wonderful ability to interpret a song. Her second U.S. recording, The Waiting Game, draws on stylish and original reworkings of both classic and obscure material, all done with a sort of sophisticated sensuousness reminiscent of, say, Ella or Billie. Selected as Album of the Year in 1996 by the London Times, the album features Martin syling her way through sexy tracks like Lieber and Stoller's funny "Some Cats" and Betty Carter's "Tight". But the young diva succeeds best when she reaches furthest, and her wild rendition of Thomas Dolby's "The Key To Your Ferrari" provies just how versatile and entertaining jazz vocals can be.
