IBO & Peter Whelan - Mr Charles the Hungarian - SWR2

Mr. Charles the Hungarian. Handel's rival in Dublin is the name of the new CD. The programme is similar to the concert programme that Mr Charles played in Dublin in 1742; it is not possible to reconstruct it exactly, but in any case one gets a taste of the colourfulness and variety of wind instruments that were offered during that one evening. The CD is published by the Scottish label Linn Records. It is a must-have if you like period wind instruments! The leader of the Irish Baroque Orchestra, Peter Whelan, is himself an outstanding bassoonist, so he knows the scene well and has assembled the best people here, this is all played on a superbly high level, very spiritedly and musical. Peter Whelan leads the orchestra here from the harpsichord.
