Ingrid Fliter & SCO - Schumann & Mendelssohn: Piano Concertos - BBC Radio 3 ‘Record Review’
Disc of the Week
Fliter also has an enjoyable exchange with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Antonio Méndez. She's maybe a little more, impulsive, with Chopin-esque rubato that tugs a little at the musical line in the more intimate moments, at least until the finale. It's an attractive account. What really works for me is the Mendelssohn G minor Concerto with Fliter exchanging the prettiness of some performances for a more dynamic interpretation. And glittering finger-work that attracts some equally sparkling reponses from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Lovely choices of tempo, the whole thing beautifully balanced.
Plays excerpt from Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1
A wonderfully lithe, muscular performance.
