Jonathan Freeman-Attwood - The Scotsman

Tuning into the uncommon combination of trumpet and piano takes a little bit of acclimatisation, especially when the works on this disc were never envisaged for such a pairing. The composers of these arrangements by trumpeter Jonathan Freeman-Atwood and pianist Daniel-Ben Pienaar are all French, ranging from the Baroque theatricality of Rameau and mock-Baroque of Reynaldo Hahn to a spicy cocktail of Chabrier, Saint-Saëns and Fauré. The effortless virtuosity in evidence here from the two players makes it all the more worthwhile.
