Robin Ticciati & DSO Berlin - Debussy: Nocturnes – Duruflé: Requiem - The Times

Kozena can be briefly heard on another Berlin recording, conducted by Robin Ticciati, where her coppery tones stand in welcome contrast to the mellifluous sounds of milk and honey dominating Duruflé’s Requiem. Ticciati’s handling of the Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester and the Rundfunk Choir Berlin is uniformly suave, although the most striking aspect of this release is its juxtaposition of works, with Duruflé’s plainsong-haunted classic shoulder-rubbing the constantly shifting textures of Debussy’s Nocturnes. Stephen Walsh’s booklet note on the links and differences between these French masterpieces is exemplary.
