The Avison Ensemble - Corelli: Opus 5 - American Record Guide
This is perhaps the most famous set of violin sonatas of all time, seminal in the development of both violin playing and the violin literature. Many recordings have been done, and a number of good ones are still around. This is one of the more reliable renditions to come along in a while.
Just four members of the Avison Ensemble perform here: Pavlo Beznosiuk, Richard Tunnicliffe, Paula Chateauneuf, and Roger Hamilton. Beznosiuk is, of course, the violinist and Tunnicliffe the cellist. The other two alternate between instruments, Chateauneuf with lute and guitar and Hamilton with harpsichord and organ.
The notes are thorough and interesting; the sound is excellent also.
