2019 Top Picks: Wilson Symphonies & Samson

Planet Hugill has selected two Linn recordings as his CD Picks from 2019: Thomas Wilson: Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4 by Rory Macdonald & Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Handel: Samson by Dunedin Consort & John Butt.

Summing up why he chose the RSNO's Wilson recording Robert Hugill wrote: "Contemporary discs included a terrific recital from pianist Adam Swayne, whilst the symphonies of the Scottish composer Thomas Wilson (1927-2001) made you wonder why his music is still relatively neglected." and commenting on Samson he stated: "2019 seemed a year for scholarship and rarity in recordings … Butt and the Dunedin Consort recorded every note of Handel's Samson as the composer originally wrote it …"
